Dog Potty Training – Teach Your Dog to Release in the Right Place

The Timing
There’s a certain timing that you have to wait when you want to do potty training with your puppy. The time actually starts when you catch your puppy in the act of pooping. When you see your dog poop inside, you have to stop it and take it outside to continue.
However, stopping the puppy and taking it outside is not all there is in dog potty training. You need to issue a simple yet specific command to signify that you want it to stop and go out of the house to release in its designated place. The command, for example, should be “outside.” But you need to say it in a voice that sounds mad or hysterical as it will only scare your puppy. After saying the command, take the dog outside to the specific place where it is allowed to poop.
The Act
More often than not, you won’t be able to catch your puppy in the act of pooping. When this happens, you don’t need to scold it or rub its nose on the poop. It won’t help the puppy a lesson. It can’t even remember that it owns the poop. You have to wait for a time to catch your puppy actually doing it so that you can teach it.
Scolding the poop in front of the puppy also helps to convey that poops are unwelcome inside the house. Dogs do not have the power to remember; they can’t recall what they did moments ago. Scolding them for what they did minutes ago won’t help it learn.
The Accompaniment
If you notice that your dog comes back inside after being ordered to go out to eliminate, it means that it doesn’t understand what you want it to do. Therefore, you have to come up with a better way of communicating with your pet.

The Command
We use spoken commands as our means of communicating with our pets, but actually, they don’t understand anything you say unless they are able to associate the word with a situation.
The command “outside” for example should be associated with the act of going out. Once out of the house and in the designated area, you can already introduce the command to signal your puppy to release, which is “go potty.” Through constant repetition, your puppy can tag these commands over time and learn to do it by itself.
Reward
Praising the puppy or rewarding it with little treats every time it obeys correctly reinforces good behavior. Do not depart from the principle of consistency as it is always a big part of any dog behavior training. As your dog develops the habit, time will come that it will no longer be necessary to command your dog, as it automatically goes to the designated to potty.
